Subject Vision

As a school, we would like to see an increased engagement in Music and performance. We want to expose children further to the joy that music can bring, whilst also giving children an opportunity to use music as a creative outlet within their learning. Linking with the EYFS goals of being ‘Imaginative and Expressive’, we want our children to feel confident to explore music and instruments freely and without the fear of getting it wrong.

In addition, want staff to feel secure in delivering our Music curriculum and to be able to feel the freedom to take children’s inspiration and lead in order to explore and improvise musically. In addition, we want to increase musical knowledge and the children’s understanding of music theory so that written music does not feel completely overwhelming. We have identified a gap within our Music scheme (Charanga) where core musical language is not being explicitly taught. This is a key next step for us when considering our targets within Music, as we want children to be exposed to key Musical literacy. We are also striving to increase participation within Music, especially for those who have SEND needs, and we want to ensure that adaptations are carried out in order to support all children to attend and enjoy Music lessons.
