How to apply for a place at St Mary’s
We are excited that you are thinking of applying to St Mary’s for a school place and hope our reputation, word of mouth, this web site and all methods of gaining information about schools will make you want to choose us for your child.
We pride ourselves on offering a wide range of high quality provision whilst retaining a nurturing environment that is important in primary education.
We can only offer 60 places each year and may receive more applications than this number and therefore we work closely with Kent, the strategic planning authority, to ensure places are allocated fairly according to policy.
We hope the notes below are helpful; they are based on those produced by Kent County Council.
Decision time
Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions you will make for your child. Before we try to explain all the legal jargon that comes with applying for a school place, please have a good look at our web site. You are also encouraged to visit the school. Please ring for an appointment on 01303 251390 or e-mail [email protected]
Applying for our Nursery
If your child is approaching the age of three, please contact our school office as we deal with the admissions directly ourselves.
Applying for a place in our Reception Classes
When your child is three or four years old, you will need to start thinking about which primary school you would like your child to go to.
By law, children have to start school by the beginning of the school term after their fifth birthday (this is when they reach compulsory school age). However, you may want your child to start earlier than that. All Kent schools will take children from four years old.
A school year runs from September in one calendar year to August in the next, so children who will reach compulsory school age during the school year are those born between 1 September and 31 August.

The term ‘in-year admissions’ describes the process when a child moves from one school to another at the start of any year other, or moves school mid-year.
If you wish to apply for an in-year admission, please contact the school office as we manage this process ourselves.
The most important bit!
Remember if you have any questions at all about our academy or its admissions procedure, please contact us.
Please see our admissions policy which is used to prioritise applications this can be found in the policy section.
