Inclusion and SEND Provision at St Mary’s School

At St Mary’s School, we are proud of our inclusive ethos and our commitment to equality of opportunity for every child. We believe that all children deserve to succeed in their own way, and we strive to achieve the best possible outcomes for each pupil — both as individuals and as valued members of our school community.

Our inclusive approach ensures that all pupils can access a broad and balanced curriculum, tailored to meet their individual needs. Class provision maps help identify children who may benefit from targeted interventions to accelerate progress. For pupils with more complex needs, our SENCo works closely with parents, staff, and — where appropriate — the children themselves to co-create bespoke Personalised Plans that reflect each child’s strengths, challenges, and aspirations.

We recognise that successful inclusion is built on strong partnerships between school staff, families, and external agencies. We are committed to working collaboratively to ensure that every child feels supported, understood, and empowered to thrive.

Our dedicated team of teaching assistants play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. They lead a range of intervention programmes, particularly during afternoon sessions, and receive regular professional development tailored to the evolving needs of our pupils. This ongoing training enables our staff to confidently support children with a wide range of needs, including those with the most complex profiles.

While all teachers are responsible for the progress and development of the pupils in their class, our SENCo leads the strategic identification of and provision for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). They work in close partnership with families and external professionals to ensure that provision is both effective and responsive.

If you think that your child may have an additional need, please make an appointment to see the SENCo, Alison Johncock to discuss your concerns:
