KS2 Groups-Forest School:
The weather is really warming up and the KS2 groups had the best of the weather for their sessions this week.
The year 3 group had great fun building some elaborate dens and then had a game of hide and seek, quite a challenge, with all the leaves on the trees, some of the boys were really hard to find!
The year 4 and 5 group started their session with the knot and log pull challenge. They had to tie a string around a tray then race to tie lengths of string together to pull a log along a path without the knots breaking apart.
Some of the children had mastered knot tying in previous sessions but some of the children had to really persevere to tie the knots. It was great to see their team mates being supportive and helping them to succeed.
In their free time, some of the children created a giant obstacle course, which all the children tried out including some passing year 6 children. Other children in the group wanted to make spinners. For this they had to learn about using a knife safely. Some of the spinners turned out really well and there were contests to see whose spinners could spin for the longest.

Year R -Forest School:
This week, the year R children had their session in the smaller forest area as they did not want to disturb the year 6 children who were doing their SATs.
They had a lovely time in the smaller Forest, climbing, building and making up some creative games.
Some of the children used the blocks and leaves to make a huge and comfy looking bug hotel for some of the bugs they found.
Mrs Judd also bought down some dragon sneeze fire strikers to the forest area and the children had a go at making fairy fires. It was quite tricky, and most children needed a bit of help, but some children were delighted when they were able to do it themselves. They were able to watch the mini fires grow and die in a matter of a few seconds.
Another fun session in Forest School!

Year 6 - Art:
Year 6 has been learning about Inuit art and their methods of carving and printing. Animals, cultural myths and legends are the Inuits main source of inspiration.
The children experimented with lino printing; using their own animal designs engraved into foam board.

Year 3 - Forest School:
This week in Forest School the rain did not stop the year 3 children form enjoying their session.
They all had their waterproofs and wellies, so a little bit of drizzly rain did not stop them.
The children built dens, made wonderful recipes, did some climbing and balancing and played some very creative games. Some of the girls decided to use the fairy fluff from the trees and the flowering cow parsley to create an intricate fairy house.
A couple of the girls were showing the value of service by helping to fill up some of the holes in the digging patch. They had great fun jumping on the soil to compact it down.
All of the children showed great teamwork and were really supportive of each other.
Well done year 3

Year 3 - DT:
In our DT lesson yesterday, Burkina Faso class experimented on different structures using sweets and cocktail sticks! This gave us a really good indication on what we needed to do to ensure the structure had stability, and it made us think ahead for when we build our own greenhouses!

Year 1- Forest School:
This week in Forest School, it was great to see the children enjoying the lovely weather.
Some of the children took responsibility for looking after the vegetable patch by weeding and watering. They are hoping that the vegetables that have been planted will begin to grow soon.
The children also enjoyed , climbing, balancing and digging , as well as rolling logs and creating a really long car and ball track to shoot their cars down. For this they needed a great deal of team work but also resilience as it kept breaking and they had to find different ways to make it work.
Some of the children discovered some fairy fluff on the trees and decided to use this to create a fairy bed in a fairy house with the wooden blocks. Another boy definitely showed the value of service as he spent the entire session litter picking.
Well done year 1 what a lovely time you all had.

Year 5 - Architecture:
Yesterday, Year 5 completed their Innovate challenge for their DT project Architecture. They challenged themselves to create a stable structure using features of Greek architecture. They included columns, a pediment and an entablature in their creations. Year 5 worked so well in their groups or pairs to make these. As you can see, some were huge and some much smaller. It was a lovely afternoon of organised chaos but their tidying up was excellent - phew! Later on this week, they will evaluate their creations.

Year 1 -Forest School:
Today in Forest School, the year 1 children started their session around the fire circle to STOP, NOTICE and WONDER
They had to sit still and look around them, look up into the canopy of the beech tree, listen to the sound of the birds and smell the freshness of the blossom.
Our wonder was how amazing it was, that in such a short time the tree above us had gone from being bare to being covered with so many leaves that you could hardly see the sky though them.
The children then went to play in the Forest School and enjoyed all sorts of activities. It is such a delight to see them using their imagination and being active outdoors.
They even remembered some of the plants and trees they learnt about last week.
Well done year 1
