Every Monday each child takes home our reading scheme books to read at home. At St Mary’s we encourage children to read at home at least three times a week and ask parents to write a comment in the contact book. We appreciate home support with practising reading as this leads to pupils developing their reading skills and a love of reading.

Children take home Read Write Inc. homework each Friday, this homework varies throughout the year according to each child’s reading and writing skills. Homework should take 5 to 10 minutes and is returned in the children’s book bags on a Monday morning.

Each Friday Learning Logs will be sent home. Teachers inform parents of the learning each week and skills that will be taught the following week. We also include important dates and events for parents in the log. Families are encouraged to use this log in a similar way to a diary, attaching photographs and drawing pictures about events at home. Children share these entries at school with their peers. The books need to be returned to school every Monday.

At the end of each term, each child will have an exciting holiday challenge provided in their Learning Logs, the challenges are to be completed over the holiday period and are to be handed in on the first day of term.

Families are welcome to borrow story sacks and Mathematics games through the academy lending scheme. Please ask Mrs Errington for details.

In the entrance to the infant building we offer a variety of information for parents to support child development. Please take a look. Lost property is also located here.
