How to apply for a place at St Mary’s
We hope our local reputation, word of mouth , this web site and all methods of gaining information about schools will make you want to choose St Mary’s for your child. We try to ensure a wide range of high quality provision whilst retaining a personal touch that is so important in primary education.
Although we are a bigger organisation than most schools, we can only offer 60 places each year. We usually receive far more applications than this number and therefore work closely with Kent, the strategic planning authority, to ensure places are allocated fairly according to policy.
We hope the notes below are helpful; they are based on those produced by Kent County Council.
Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions you will make for your child. Before we try to explain all the legal jargon that comes with applying for a school place, please have a good look at our web site. You are also encouraged to visit the school. Please ring for an appointment on 01303 251390 or e-mail email@example.com
Applying for our Nursery
If your child is approaching the age of three, please contact our school office as we deal with the admissions directly ourselves.
Applying for a place in our Reception Classes
As an academy, St Mary’s manages its own admissions but does so in line with the Kent Common Application System. Extracts of the KCC guidance are outlined below.
When your child is three or four years old, you will need to start thinking about which primary school you would like your child to go to.
By law, children have to start school by the beginning of the school term after their fifth birthday (this is when they reach compulsory school age). However, you may want your child to start earlier than that. All Kent schools will take children from four years old.
A school year runs from September in one calendar year to August in the next, so children who will reach compulsory school age during the school year 2020/2021 are those born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016.

Please note that you should also complete the St Mary’s supplementary information form which is at the back of our Admissions Policy (see link to policy below)
Applying for a place in Year
The term in year admissions describes the process when a child moves from one school to another at the start of any year other than reception or moves school in mid year.
If you wish to apply for an in year admission please contact the school office as we manage this process ourselves.
The most important bit!
