Infants Sports day

The children in key stage 1 completed their week of sporting activities with Infants Sports Day. A large crowd of parents and friends came along to support and cheer the children along. What a fantastic afternoon.

Charivari Street Carnival

The children and staff at St Marys took part in the Charivari street carnival organised by 'Strange Cargo'. The children with the help of their parents and staff made their own costumes for the procession. The theme of the carnival this year was 'A Night at the Opera.

The Big Toddle

The children from St Mary's Nursery took part in The Barnardos big Toddle.

Year 6 Caribbean Party Celebrations

Year 6 celebrated the end of their caribbean project with a wonderful caribbean themed party. It was great to see such a fantastically colourful turn out and we hear that the punch went down really well.

Lower Junior Sports Day 2010

Years 3 and 4 enjoyed a wonderful sports afternoon. They took part in many events including egg and spoon races, obstacle races and three legged races. The weather was perfect and a great afternoon was had by all. Thank you to all the visitors that came along to support the children.

Upper Junior Sports Day 2010

Yet another great sports afternoon enjoyed by the years 5 and 6 children.
Everyone cheered and encouraged their team members along. To finish the afternoon off, staff, parents and toddlers all took part in their own races.
Well done to everyone that took part and helped make this a great sporting event.

Dunkirk Evacuation

Pupils from Year 4 and Year 6 spent the morning at Folkestone Harbour on Friday the 29th May with the BBC. There, they had the privilege of talking live via a video/conference to Veterans from the Dunkirk Evacuation in 1940, who were answering their questions from Dunkirk Beach.

Summer Fete 2010

The staff and pupils worked very hard to prepare this years summer fete. Pupils in year 6 designed and made their own games. The weather was fantastic and and a great time was had by all.

Pupils from the Lower Juniors spent a great day, in some sunshine,at the Living Land Show specially organized for Primary schools.

Chickens have arrived!

At long last three rescued chickens have now arrived!
They are now settling in to their palatial palace here at St Mary's, which even has an upstairs!
A far cry from the cramped battery chicken cages that they had spent their short lives in so far.
They seem very contented and have even being laying some eggs every day!

The infant and nursery children have been making Easter bonnets and gardens.

'Say No' to Yellow Pages Day

The juniors spent a great afternoon creating works of art from Yellow pages!
The Yellow Brick Road, Origami flowers, birds nests, flowers and even a Chicken were all made from old, unwanted yellow pages.

Nest cam

We have been taking part in the 'The big schools Bird Watch' 2010.
We have a fantastic new bird nesting box with a webcam inside. This means we can watch the birds exploring their new home and preparing their nest. Our bird box has proved popular with the birds and already has a regular visitor. To view the live webcam click on the birdbox photo.

KS2 Christmas Nativity

Christmas Once Again Christmas Once Again Stable Manners was presented by children from Year's 3 to 6 at a packed St Eanswythe's Church on a cold frosty evening.
Many hours of rehersals, taken by Mr King and Miss Bryan, certainly paid off for this highly successfull and colourful reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.

Snow at Last

Celts and Romans visit Year 3

The playground at St Mary's, was full of Celts and Romans earlier this week. Their leaders the Elegant Roman teacher (Mrs McHugh) and the fierce Celtic teacher (Mrs Mason Woods) were all prepared for their Year 3 classes to find out more about what was life for these people, living in our country, hundreds of years ago!

Harvest + Autumn

We held 4 services for our Harvest Festival in October as the Autumn colours were beginning to show in our school grounds.
Thank you to all the parents that attended these services, where we were reminded by the students, how reliant we are on the weather and God's help for growing our food.

Theatre Works...Writers in Action

For two whole weeks, BBC Theatre Works were working with pupils from Years 4, 5 & 6 at St Mary's.
Every class had 3 individual sessions with these motivating presenters in the hall.
They learnt about beginnings, middles and ends of stories, characters and settings (including inside a piano)!
Hopefully we will have some budding authors in the future after these 2 weeks.

Science at St Mary's

Thursday's and Friday's sees many of the Junior children walking around in white overalls, investigating and being scientists for the day. Finding out about soils and volcanoes and about healthy lifestyles are just some of the activities carried out this term.

Community Cohesion

Year 6CU , who link with ZS Rudna school in the Czech Republic and our Czech children, had a great Czech workshop on Monday with some of our Czech parents helping put as well.
Year 6LW, who link with Szkola 707 in Poland, helped Year 1 with their Polish workshop, where we also have some Polish children.

BLP Days

Both KS1 and KS2 each had a fantastic day working collaboratively across their key stages, in mixed age groups, . There were over 14 different activities on the Building Learning Power days, for pupils to chose from and this method of working enhanced the "Seal" philosophy that school has adopted.

BBC @ School

What do the children at St Mary's think about the Credit Crunch and the economic situation at the moment?
BBC World Class sent their reporter, Cordelia, from London to Folkestone and to St Mary's to find out what the children here thought.
A group of Year 5 pupils had been preparing their ideas supported by Mr Wright, for over week and it was hard to chose just 5 of them for the broadcast.
Listen to what they said, with the seagulls supporting them, as their thoughts were recorded outside!

Teacher's TV World Weather Watch and Data!

Year 5 pupils showed their skills with handling raw data from the World Weather Watch project, when Teacher's TV came into school to film them in July.

International Week

Over 1500 messages were posted on the International online Forum of www.superclubsplus.com during this week and our Year 6's were busy using SCP to mail their e-pals in Poland and Czech republic.
Year 5 wrote to their French pals both by e-mail and by hand!! Year 4 found out about the USA and Finland as well as Iran. Our Year 2's were learning more about their link school in Iran and are sending Peter Rabbit to Kherad school and Paddington back to Italy for Christmas. Both Sunshine and Rainbow classes were discovering more about India, tasting the food and naming their bears to send there.
Foundation classes and Year 3, dressed up as African animals during this week and the newspaper came to take some pictures!



Victorian School returns to Y5

The Doctor Who Tardis, transports Year 5 pupils back into the Victorian Age BUT still allows them to use modern technology with digital cameras, superclubsplus online forums and video/ conferences with schools in Czech Republic and the Orkney islands!
